Our recommendations for care of silver and gold jewellery
- To minimise scratches and other damage, store your gold and silver in either in a cloth pouch or in a separate compartment in your jewellery box. Store carefully to avoid scratching and tangling.
- Avoid exposing your silver and gold to household chemical products including perfumes, body lotions, hairsprays, make up and deodorants.
- Care should also be taken to prevent silver tarnish build-up Tarnishing is a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulphur or hydrogen sulphide in the air. Tarnish is most easily removed when it first becomes visible. Although wearing your silver jewellery often is the best way to prevent tarnish from building up, regular cleaning of all your silver items will prevent tarnish and keep your silver bright and sparkling.
- We recommend using specialist jewellery cleaning cloths or fluids for cleaning your gold and silver jewellery. Do not use any abrasive cleaning cloths or fluids.
- Always remove jewellery when bathing, swimming, exercising or undertaking any manual work.
- We do not recommend sleeping in jewellery.
- Many white gold products are rhodium plated to give a whiter finish and over a period of time the rhodium plate will begin to wear off .The gold underneath will seem a buttery yellow colour in contrast to the rhodium plating. Rhodium is an extremely hard and shiny white metal from the platinum group of metal and can be re applied to restore your white gold jewellery to pristine condition.
- Before putting your pearls away, wipe them with a soft cloth and store them separately from other jewellery to avoid scratching their delicate surface. Avoid exposing your pearls to household chemical products including perfumes, body lotions, hairsprays, make up and deodorants.
